A series of major new transport projects are under way in London and the rest of the UK as part of the government’s new “triple black” transport strategy.
Key points:The first phase of the London Underground network will be complete by 2020Transport for London (TfL) is the new operator to run the Tube, Piccadilly Line, and Crossrail projects, as well as new bus services and new stations.
TfC is planning to invest £2.2 billion in the first phase, with the rest to come laterThe £2 billion investment in the London Tube will be made over the next decade, with work on the London Crossrail project to begin in 2019The first Phase of the new Tube network is expected to open in 2020, but TfL is still trying to finalise the details of the project, with its new operator BTP being tasked to take over running the tube network in the second phase.
A key aspect of the Tube’s new development is that the first stage of the line is to be complete, with TfC expected to take responsibility for the next four years.
The new London Crossroads station will be built on the site of the former Royal Exchange building.
The station will also have a new entrance on the north side of the station platform.
Tufl says the new Crossrail line will see a “significant” expansion in the number of stations across the capital, with a total of 20 stations planned.
Tefl is planning for a new station in Harrow which will be used by Crossrail trains, and it has announced that a new train station will open in Southwark in 2020.
Tdfl has been looking to increase its station network across the country since the collapse of the Soviet Union.
Tafl says it expects to spend at least £500 million on the new line, with another £250 million being earmarked for the new stations and facilities in London.
Tftl has already opened the first stations in the West End and in the capital’s South Kensington, and has begun work on two more stations in North Kensington.
The new Crossroads Station will be the first in the city to open.
Tffl will open a second station in East London in 2021, which will have a capacity of 4,000 passengers.
Tlfl is also set to open two stations in London’s South East and one in North London in 2022.
The company says it is investing in infrastructure across the UK, with more than 700 miles of track and more than 600 stations under construction.
Tsfl says that the Tube network will “be one of the most ambitious transport projects in UK history”, and that it is “deeply proud” of the work it has already carried out on the project.
